Bert’s family and 300 of his friends and colleagues attended the State Funeral Service to celebrate his life and reflect on his contribution to the entertainment industry, numerous charities and the state of Victoria.
The Service commenced with a welcome from Very Reverend Werner Utri, Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral. This was followed by a rendition of the Australian National Anthem, performed by Silvie Paladino.
Bert’s memory was then honoured by the Premier, the Honourable Daniel Andrews MP, followed by tributes and performances on behalf of colleagues and family, including from Eddie McGuire AM, Anthony Callea and Peter Smith OAM.
A Requiem Mass was then led by Archbishop Peter Comensoli. The State Funeral Service concluded with Bert’s family escorting his casket from the Cathedral, followed by his grandchildren releasing doves outside.
