Modernising the truck fleet program
A new $15 million grants program will target truck operators who regularly travel through Melbourne’s Inner West and provide them with a grant to remove their older, dirtier trucks off the road and encourage the transition to newer, more emission efficient trucks.
Truck owners can unlock up to $20,000 for scrapping their old truck and leverage this grant along with earnings from metal recyclers to help purchase a new truck with improved emission standards.
The grant amounts will be determined by a truck sales expert to ensure the amount awarded is fair and will be confirmed by the Department.
We will continue to collaborate with industry to customise the program and make sure it is meeting the objective to improve air quality.
The application period for the Modernising the Truck Fleet program has now closed. Stay tuned for upcoming rounds in 2024. To apply for a grant visit vic.gov.au(opens in a new window). and search under the ‘Modernising the truck fleet program’
Local road sealing program
We are also offering $5 million in grants to local councils to seal local roads under council management, reducing airborne dust pollution.
The Department of Transport and Planning continues to work with Hobsons Bay, Brimbank and Maribyrnong City Councils on establishing a list of potential local roads that most strongly meet the program’s criteria.
