Maidstone Construction update - February 2024

24-hour road works in March. We’re building a new tram maintenance and stabling facility for Melbourne’s new next-generation trams in Maidstone.

This March we’re installing new drainage services and working in the tram corridor off Williamson Road.

We’re closing sections of Williamson and Wests roads from 9pm Thursday 29 February to Tuesday 5 March 2024 with our crews working during the day and night.

There will also be temporary lane closures on roads around the works area. Drivers should plan ahead allowing extra travel time with detours in place.

There will also be changes to tram and bus services. See inside for more information about changes to how you travel.

Access to businesses and homes will be maintained at all times.

We know these road works are disruptive and thank the community for their patience.

Getting ready for construction

Our crews are busy preparing the site of Maidstone’s new tram maintenance and stabling facility ahead of construction starting in the coming weeks.

Once site preparations are complete we’ll begin constructing the new maintenance and administration buildings. Almost 700 cubic metres of concrete will be poured, forming the foundations for these buildings in the south-west corner of the site.

Once complete, the facility will maintain and stable Melbourne-built next-generation G Class trams.

Throughout this year you may see more activity in the area and on site including more construction workers, vehicles and machinery.

We’ll continue to keep the community informed about upcoming works and any changes to how you move around the area.
