Registering a young child – parents/guardians
Parents and guardians with young children not attending an early childhood service can register their children to take part in the Challenge and get a certificate.
At the start of the Challenge:
- Go to the Challenge application.
- Under 'Home based readers and early childhood participants' , select 'Register for the Challenge'.
- Select the ‘I am a parent/guardian’ option.
- Enter your name in the Parent/guardian name field.
- Enter your email address.
- Confirm your email address.
- Complete the security questions. You’ll need these at the end of the Challenge.
- Select Register.
You’ll get a welcome email confirming your registration to take part in the Challenge.
If you do not get your confirmation email:
- check your email spam folder
- email readingchallenge@education.vic.gov.au.
Once registered, start reading books to your children every day. They need to experience a minimum of 40 books during the Challenge.
Registering a young child – early childhood services
Early childhood services can register children to take part in the Challenge and get a certificate. Parental consent forms are not needed.
At the start of the Challenge:
- Go to the Challenge application.
- Under 'Home based readers and early childhood participants' , select 'Register for the Challenge'.
- Start typing the name of your service in the Early childhood service name field. Select your service from the list.
- Confirm the email address associated with your service.
- Complete the security questions. You’ll need these at the end of the Challenge.
- Select Register.
If your service does not appear in the main list, select the ‘I am a service that is not listed’ link. Then:
- Enter the name of your service in the Early childhood service name field.
- Enter the email address for your service.
- Confirm your email address.
- Complete the security questions. You’ll need these at the end of the Challenge.
- Select Register.
You’ll get a welcome email confirming your registration to take part in the Challenge.
If you do not get your confirmation email:
- check your email spam folder
- email readingchallenge@education.vic.gov.au.
The end of the Challenge
One month before the Challenge closes, you’ll get an email with information on how to:
- finalise your participation in the Challenge
- order printed certificates to be mailed to your chosen address.
You must complete this process before the final day of the Challenge.
The email contains a unique link that will take you to a page where you’ll answer the security questions you set up when you registered.
- Select the link provided in the email.
- Answer your security questions to log in.
- Confirm that 40 books have been read and you met the Challenge target.
- An ‘Upload’ button will appear. Select Upload and follow the instructions to submit the names of the children who need certificates.
- Confirm or give your postal address details for the printed certificates to be delivered to.
