Premiers' Reading Challenge: Meet our author ambassador

Children’s book author and illustrator Jess McGeachin is our 2025 Premiers’ Reading Challenge author ambassador.

Jess has written and illustrated 12 children's books that have become favourites for Premiers' Reading Challenge participants including The Lost Library, Frankie and the Fossil and The Tree at Number 43.

Jess loves telling stories about hidden places, like the underground world beneath your feet or a secret library waiting to be found. He finds inspiration from nature and draws from his job as a graphic designer at Melbourne Museum in his storytelling and design.

Jess's books have won numerous awards: Deep was recognised as the winner of the 2023 Children's Book Council of Australia Eve Pownall Award. Kind and The Tree at Number 43 are the co-winners of the Environment Awards for Children's Literature.
