Department of Transport and Planning - Safety Regulators

Transport Safety Victoria(opens in a new window), the independent statutory office of the Director, Transport Safety, was established by the TIA.

It administers bus and maritime safety legislation, accredits and licenses operators, monitors compliance, and investigates and reports on bus and maritime safety.

DTP works with VicRoads and the Victorian Police to oversee and administer the Road Safety Act 1986(opens in a new window).

DTP also works with the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator(opens in a new window) to oversee the safety of Victoria’s rail networks.
