The history of Woodford Primary School
1854
Woodford opened in 1854 in the home of the first head teacher, Abraham Lauder. 14 students were enrolled.
The wooden school building had a school room, sitting room, bedroom and kitchen. The rooms were all converted to classrooms. It was located on the east side of the Merri River on Victoria Street.
1870s
A new teacher's residence was built in 1872.
The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.
A new sandstone school was built in 1874. Classes were held in Tate's ballroom during construction.
1885
One of the classrooms was converted into a teacher's residence with an attached wooden building. The Department of Education later bought the police station and residence.
1955
The former attached teacher's residence was demolished in 1955.
1970
The school was renamed Woodford Primary School in 1970.
2022
Woodford Primary School is still in operation.
