The history of Wattle Flat State School
1864
The school opened as a common school in 1864. It was originally called Wombat Hill. The first head teacher was Edwin Davis.
1865
A timber schoolhouse with a shingle roof was built that was big enough for 74 students. A timber house was built for the head teacher. This house had 4 rooms.
1870s
The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.
Student numbers were increasing and the average number of students going to school in 1877 was 70.
1888
The school moved locations and opened at another site in 1888. A new timber schoolhouse was built. There were 4 rooms attached for the head teacher to live in.
1890
The school was renamed Wattle Flat in 1890.
1892
The number of students enrolled at the school had dropped to 14.
1946
There were 27 students enrolled at the school in 1946.
1959
Wattle Flat State School closed in 1959 due to low student numbers.
