The history of Nagambie Primary School
1870s
The school, originally known as Goulburn Valley, opened as a common school in 1870.
The first head teacher was H.G. Clayton and attendance was 25.
Classes were held in a rented building described as a ‘wretched little building'. A brick school building was finished in 1871.
Nagambie was recognised as a common school in 1872. The school became a state school in the late 1870s.
1880
The Mechanics Hall was rented by the school in 1880.
1885
A new school building was finished in 1885. It was opened by G. Hall, the Member of Parliament for Moira.
1891
In 1891 the teacher's house was completed.
1895
Trees were first planted in the grounds in 1895.
1904
An unused school, Prairie State School (No. 1981), was moved to Nagambie.
This provided extra accommodation. It later became a sloyd room (a room used for woodworking) but was eventually destroyed by fire.
1910
Two new rooms were added and enrolment had reached 201.
1970
The school changed its name to Nagambie Primary School in 1970 when 115 were enrolled.
