The history of Lockwood South Primary School

  • 1859

    The school was opened by the Independent Church in 1859. It was known as Lockwood School when it opened. The first head teacher was James Richards.

  • 1860s

    The school building was made of either brick or stone and could accommodate 60 students. The school became a common school in 1862.

  • 1873

    The school became a state school in 1873.

  • 1889

    A teacher's residence was added in 1889.

  • 1915

    The name of the school was changed to Lockwood South in 1915.

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Lockwood South Primary School in 1970.

  • 2006

    The school took delivery of 5 new modular classrooms.

  • 2010s

    The school was redeveloped in 2012. A new open learning space, staff room and administration area were added. The redevelopment was opened by the Honourable Martin Dixon, Education Minister.

  • 2022

    Lockwood South Primary School is still in operation.
