The history of Kalkallo Primary School

  • 1855

    The school opened in 1855. It was called Donnybrook school when it opened.

  • 1862

    Kalkallo became a common school in 1862. Eli Chew was head teacher at the time.

  • 1873

    The school became a state school in 1873. It is believed its name changed to Kalkallo at this stage but this may have happened earlier.

    By this time there was a bluestone schoolhouse. The bluestone had been quarried locally.

  • 1913

    A house was given to the school for the head teacher to live in. It had been built for the local policeman.

  • 1955

    A new teacher's house was built in 1955.

  • 1961

    A new classroom was added because the school was growing bigger.

  • 1966

    A bore hole was drilled down to provide water for the school and the teacher's house.

  • 1967

    Another new classroom was built.

  • 1970

    The name of the school changed to Kalkallo Primary School in 1970.

  • 1993

    Kalkallo Primary School closed in 1993.
