The history of Highton Primary School
1854
Highton was opened by the Church of England in 1854. The first head teacher was William Creeny and 55 students were enrolled.
1874
Highton remained a non-vested Capitation School up until 1874.
1875
The school became a state school in 1875.
The Department of Education leased the school building until a new one could be built. The new school was located on Roslyn Road, where it still is today.
1880
An unused school building from Gnarwarre was moved to Highton to be used as the teacher's residence. A one room extension was added.
1887
Another two rooms were added to the teacher's residence.
1890
A new brick classroom opened in 1890.
1941
A Young Farmers' Club was formed in 1941.
1958
The Young Farmer's Club stopped in 1958.
1968
There were 319 students enrolled in 1968.
1970
The school was renamed Highton Primary School in 1970.
2022
Highton Primary School is still in operation.
