The history of Heyfield Primary School

  • 1870s

    Heyfield opened as a common school in 1871. It is still located on this same site today.

    There were 40 students enrolled and the average attendance was 20.

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.

  • 1906

    The school was completely destroyed by a fire in 1906.

  • 1957

    There were 363 students enrolled in 1957.

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Heyfield Primary School in 1970. The head teacher at the time was Owen Lorensene and 303 students were enrolled.

  • 2022

    Heyfield Primary School is still in operation.
