The history of Harcourt Primary School
1859
Harcourt opened as a national school in 1859. It was built using a Government grant and local contributions from residents.
The opening celebration for the school boasted 400 people.
The first head teacher was Henry Hayden who taught 8 boys and 3 girls.
1860
In 1860 attendance increased to 38 boys and 39 girls.
1863
In 1863 Harcourt received a two-acre site to build a new school.
1873
The average attendance reached 63.
1875
The new school building opened.
1925
A Mothers' Club was formed.
1926
A timber endowment plantation was established.
1959
The school held centenary celebrations in 1959 to unveil a memorial tablet.
The celebration hosted the Hon JS Bloomfield, MLA.
1970
The name of the school changed to Harcourt Primary School in 1970.
1993
The Harcourt Primary School (No. 299) and Harcourt North Primary School (No. 4043) were combined to form a new school in 1993.
The new school, Harcourt Valley Primary School (No. 5404), is still in operation.
