The history of Green Hills State School
1870
Green Hills opened as a common school in 1870.
The wooden schoolhouse was near a swamp and the railway line.
There were 32 students and the head teacher was Robert MacKenzie.
Arthur L. Butler became the head teacher in early 1871 but he left after 8 months and the school was forced to close. In 1872 Arthur L. Butler returned as head teacher and the school reopened.
The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.
The school had now moved to the other side of the railway line in 1877. There was a new wooden schoolhouse with a four-room head teacher's house attached to it. The old schoolhouse was sold and moved.
1903
Low student numbers forced Green Hills to operate part time and share a teacher with Baranduda State School (No. 2222).
1916
The schoolhouse was renovated with new floors.
1932
The head teacher's house had become very run down and was damaged by ants and termites.
1944
A new teacher's house was requested to replace the damaged one.
1945
The school was vacant for 12 months.
1950
With only 4 students the school closed in 1950. The property was later damaged by fire and eventually sold.
