The history of Clunes Common School
1859
Clunes Common School was opened by Wesleyan authorities.
The first head teacher was William Lamble. Classes were held in a rented building.
The township of Clunes developed around Victoria's first goldfields, so many students had parents that had moved to the area because of the gold rush.
Another Wesleyan school, Clunes (No. 136) also operated in town. Both schools were on the west side of the creek.
1875
Clunes Common School (No. 157) closed.
A new school, Clunes State School (No. 1552) opened in the same year. It replaced Clunes Common School (No. 157) and Clunes (No. 136).
