The history of Chiltern Primary School
1867
Chiltern opened as a common school in 1867. The number of students going to the school was about 120. A one-room brick schoolhouse was built.
1870s
The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.
The number of students had grown to 400 by 1874 so the school was made bigger.
The number of students enrolled in 1875 was 513 (247 boys and 266 girls). However, the average number of students going to school was only 284.
1911
A new school building was built to replace the old building which had become run down.
1949
The school burnt down. The building could not be saved because the water pipes were frozen in the cold and the water would not run. Two new classrooms were built. The number of students enrolled was 92.
1970
The school was renamed Chiltern Primary School in 1970.
2022
Chiltern Primary School is still in operation.
