The history of Carlton (Lygon Street) State School

    Carlton (Lygon St) opened as a common school in 1870.

    The first head teacher was Thomas J Connor.

    This new school replaced Carlton (Gratton St, No. 175), which opened in 1862.

    The average attendance was 73 students, including 37 girls and 36 boys.

  • 1892

    The school worked alongside another local school, Carlton (Faraday St, state school No. 112).

  • 1908

    The school closed in 1908.
