The history of Carlsruhe State School

  • 1855

    Carlsruhe opened as a national school.

    The first head teacher was Michael Connell and the initial enrolment was 20 students.

  • 1860s to 1870s

    A brick schoolhouse was built in the Common School period (1862-72).

  • 1969

    There were no staff at the school in 1968 and it closed in 1969.

  • 1970

  • Present day

    The old Carlsruhe school site is currently known as the Carlsruhe Annex.

    It is a campus of Woodend Primary School (No. 647). Grade 4 students spend their entire year at the annexe to experience what it is like to study at a rural school.
