The history of Braxholme Common School
1856
Branxholme was opened by the Church of England.
The first head teacher was Henry T Morse and attendance was below 20.
The school building was made using local timber.
1857
The school was reclassified as a national school.
1858
Josiah R Remfrey became head teacher in 1858. He was the son of Josiah Remfrey, once head teacher at Bridgewater and later at Heywood.
1863
The school was examined by the District Inspector.
The school became a common school in the 1860s.
1864
An inspection did not take place because of serious illness in the district.
1873
The number of students was 73.
1877
The school in closed on 30 November 1877.
It was immediately replaced by Branxholme State School (No. 1978) on 1 December 1877. A new school building was built, using locally handmade bricks.
