The history of Bellbrae Primary School

  • 1861

    The school as a national school opened in 1861. It was called Jac Juc when it opened The first head teacher was William Cook. He stayed as the head teacher for 16 years. There were 35 students enrolled when the school opened.

  • 1862

    The school became a common school in 1862. The schoolhouse was made from brick and stone. It was big enough for 60 students. There was a house for the teacher attached. It had 4 rooms.

  • 1873

    The school became a state school in 1873.

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Bellbrae Primary School.

  • 2022

    Bellbrae Primary School is still in operation.
