The Skills Plan
The annual Victorian Skills Plan sets out Victoria’s skills needs based on the latest data and stakeholder insights, and identifies key areas for action to achieve a world-class post-secondary education and training system.
- Sets the vision for Victoria’s skills and training system
- Brings stakeholders together to help address Victoria’s workforce needs
- Helps to develop a skilled and inclusive workforce to support Victoria’s economic priorities
The Skills Plan supports the delivery of key Victorian Government priorities:
- Housing Statement
- Care economy
- Clean economy
- Big Build
- Digital skills
Focus areas for the Victorian Skills Plan 2024 into 2025:
Give students the knowledge and skills they need
- Deliver stronger foundation skills like reading, writing and maths to succeed in work and life
- Re-design vocational education and training (VET) qualifications to better meet the needs of learners and industry
- Build digital capability to leverage new technologies and lift productivity
Break down barriers to training
- Better recognise workers’ existing skills to meet skills shortages in sectors like construction and care
- Advocate for more financial support from the Commonwealth Government for VET learners to improve training access and completion
Connect school students with pathways to work
- More exposure to the world of work to make better career decisions
- Promote the value of apprenticeships to help school students prepare for a career in growing industries
Victoria’s workforce needs over the next three years:
- 392,000 new workers are expected to enter the Victorian economy between 2024 and 2027
- Many occupations in demand require VET qualifications, including apprenticeships and traineeships
