If you no longer require a liquor licence you should surrender or cancel it immediately.
By surrendering or cancelling the licence or permit, you will no longer be liable for liquor-related offences.
If a liquor licence is required in future, you can re-apply at any time.
Surrender a licence or permit (licensee or permittee)
A licensee or permittee who no longer requires their licence or permit can surrender it at any time by completing the below application form.
You can only surrender a licence if you have a letter of consent from your landlord (the person or entity that owns the premises you are operating in). The letter of consent must confirm in writing they agree to surrender of the licence or permit. If you cannot get a letter of consent from your landlord, please provide their phone number and email and we will follow up.
Please email the following documents to contact@liquor.vic.gov.au or your request will not be processed:
- the completed ‘surrender a liquor licence or permit’ application form
- a letter of consent from your landlord agreeing to the surrender.
Request to be released from your liquor license obligations
If you are the tenant of a licensed premises and you decide to leave without surrendering the liquor licence or permit, send a signed letter requesting to be released from your obligations as a licensee to contact@liquor.vic.gov.au.
You can only be released from your licensee obligations once you have the left the premises.
Your letter must contain:
- your licence or permit number
- your licensed premises address
- the date your lease expired and/or the date that you will leave the premises
- the signature of the licensee. If the licensee is:
- an individual, that individual can sign the letter
- a company or incorporated association, one director or executive committee member must sign the letter
- a partnership, all partners must sign the letter
- the date it was signed.
Cancel a licence or permit (owner or mortgagee)
An owner or mortgagee who no longer requires the licence or permit associated with their premises can cancel it at any time by completing the below application form.
You can only apply to cancel the liquor licence or permit if you are currently in possession of the premises. LCV will contact the current licensee to confirm if they still require the liquor licence or permit.
Please email the following documents to contact@liquor.vic.gov.au or your request will not be processed:
- the completed ‘cancel a licence or permit – owner or mortgagee’ application form
- a document to prove that you are the owner or mortgagee of the premises (this can be a copy of the land title or most recent council rates notice).
