A State Memorial Service was held to honour The Honourable John Landy AC CVO MBE on Tuesday 20 December at the MCG Members Dining Room.
Mr Landy was an accomplished figure in Victoria’s history, a highly successful athlete, scientist, passionate naturalist and was Governor of Victoria from 2001 to 2006.
Master of Ceremonies Mr Steve Moneghetti AM led the memorial, introducing a Welcome to Country by Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Perry Wandin, followed by a rendition of the Australian National Anthem performed by Mr Raphael Wong.
The Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, then spoke on behalf of the people of Victoria and was followed by a heartfelt tribute to Mr Landy by Mr Moneghetti.
Mr Matthew Landy then paid tribute to his father on behalf of the family, followed by Mr Gib Wettenhall OAM and Associate Professor Tamson Pietsch.
The service concluded with closing remarks by Mr Moneghetti.

In lieu of flowers and at the request of Mr Landy’s family, memorial tributes can be made in the form of contributions to the Australian Conservation Foundation.
