The PACE (Participate, Advocate, Communicate, Engage) Leadership Program builds on migrant women’s knowledge and experiences to take the lead in their lives, work and community.
Delivered by the Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health (MCWH), the program aims to encourage migrant women to access leadership opportunities, and to collectively advocate for better conditions for migrant women to be leaders.
The PACE program helps participants learn how to be a confident leaders and is based on four guiding principles. These aim to increase migrant and refugee women’s capacity to:
- Participate in the workforce, civic and community life
- Advocate on issues impacting their community
- Communicate leadership qualities and skills
- Engage with issues and others in the community for the purposes of providing ongoing support to other migrant and refugee women.
This program will support participants to:
- Gain confidence in yourself
- Participate in your community
- Improve communication skills
- Advocate on issues that matter to you
- Become a leader in your life and community
Participant requirements
Participants must:
- be a migrant and refugee woman or non-binary and gender diverse person living in Victoria
- have lived in Australia for less than 5 years
- be currently seeking employment or volunteering.

Program structure
The program will build participants’ confidence and skills in public speaking, teamwork and leadership through:
- two 5-day PACE Leadership programs
- two FAST PACE workshops
It will also provide ongoing support and capacity-building opportunities through workshops, informal mentoring, networking events, referrals to local services and information through:
- three PACE Network activities
- two PACE Hub activities
- monthly newsletters
The program activities will be delivered both online and in-person.
