The Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board has been working to assist the Learn Local sector by centralising resources and making new online tools available.
The online platform called the Learn Local Secure Portal (Secure Portal) was launched in November 2021. The Secure Portal gives Learn Locals access to teaching and learning resources, supports collaboration and engagement in professional development, and access to a range of online tools.
New tool added to the Learn Local Secure Portal
The most recent addition to the Learn Local Secure Portal is Blackboard Ally, an accessibility checker designed to improve practitioner awareness and skill to enable learning materials to be downloaded into alternative formats. This will ensure that learning content can be accessed by as wide an audience as possible, lifting the resource quality and learner experience. The Ally accessibility checker automatically scans compatible files ‘published’ in your Secure Portal space. The tool provides an accessibility score with suggested feedback for improvements on a range of print accessibility measures. Alternative formats can be for downloaded including braille, audio, HTML and can produce translations into a range of other languages. Ally will be made available in March 2022.
Second opportunity to get a Secure Portal account
In order to use the Secure Portal Learn Locals need an account. The first intake of Secure Portal account holders resulted in roughly half of all Learn Local organisations signing up to the Secure Portal. If your Learn Local missed the first intake you will be able to nominate your two account holders through a new survey which will be sent out by your Regional Managers shortly.
Training sessions for the Secure Portal and the new tool, Ally, will be hosted at the end of February. Invitations will follow via email.
