This guide is intended to support implementation of the Certificates in General Education for Adults (CGEA). The guide is intended for both experienced and new users of the curriculum and provides information on the changes made to the curriculum during its most recent reaccreditation in 2018.

Course purpose

The Course in Initial Adult Literacy and Numeracy supports the development of beginning skills in reading, writing and numeracy to enable learners with significant cognitive disability or impairment to begin to participate in community engagement and to meet basic everyday needs.

Course purpose

The Certificate I in Initial Adult Literacy and Numeracy provides learning options and pathways for adults with intellectual disability who want to improve their literacy and numeracy skills to meet their everyday needs. This includes participating in the community, meeting daily living needs or accessing further learning.

Course purpose

The Certificate I in Work Education supports post compulsory school age learners with permanent cognitive and/or intellectual disabilities to explore work options and access pathways to further specific vocational education and training.

It supports learners to improve their employability and work readiness.

In exceptional circumstances compulsory school age learners with evidence of permanent cognitive and/or intellectual disability may be enrolled in the qualification.

Course purpose

The Certificate I in Transition Education supports post compulsory school aged learners with a permanent cognitive and/or intellectual disability to become active participants in the community.

The course assists learners to develop life skills and supports self-development so that they can explore suitable future options such as employment, further study or community participation.

In exceptional circumstances compulsory school age learners with evidence of a permanent cognitive and/or intellectual disability may be enrolled in the qualification.

Course purpose

The Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation provides an alternative pathway for those returning to study by supporting the development of academic and study skills to access higher level qualifications both in the VET sector and in Higher Education across a range of disciplines.

The term 'Tertiary Studies' as used within the context of this course refers to both higher education undergraduate study and higher level vocational (VET) courses of study.

Course purpose

This course supports successful transition into an undergraduate initial teacher education qualification for those from diverse backgrounds and life stages who wish to pursue a career in early childhood/primary or secondary school teaching without compromising the rigour of their preparation as teachers. The course also provides potential pathways into education support courses.

Completion of this qualification will not result in registration as a teacher.

The 22604VIC Certificate I in Mumgu-dhal tyama-tiyt community, connection and pathways enables learners to explore their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and community and develop or strengthen personal connections. It also enables learners to develop language, literacy and numeracy skills and personal confidence to engage more broadly with society.

Course purpose

The EAL Framework prepares adults learning English as an Additional Language for a range of educational and vocational pathways. The Framework consists of eleven courses including two Courses in and a range of AQF qualifications across the areas of Access, Employment/Professional and Further Study. The courses are designed for the diverse range of adult learners of English as an additional language needing to develop their English language proficiency skills in order to participate in a range of further education, training, employment and community participation contexts.

The Course in Transport and Logistics Employment Pathway provides a range of outcomes for entry-level positions in transport/logistics-related organisations such as freight delivery companies and warehouses.

Course Purpose

The Course in Policing Recruitment Pathway supports participants from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to participate in and manage the initial Victoria Police recruitment process and the transition to the Victoria Police Academy as either a Police Officer, a Protective Services Officer (PSO) or a Police Custody Officer (PCO).

Completion of this Course does not result in acceptance to the Victoria Police Academy, as there are additional requirements that are determined and assessed by Victoria Police.
