Worker registration

Find out about registering for the Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme.

Registration

Employers are legally required to register covered workers for the Scheme when submitting the relevant period of quarterly returns. Employers who fail to do so face the risk of court action and financial penalties.

When you’re first registered you will receive a letter or email from us with your Worker ID.

Speak to your employer to find out if you’re already registered. If you’re registered, they will be able to provide your Worker ID.

If your employer is not able to confirm if you are registered or provide your Worker ID, or if you don't want to speak to your employer directly, you can contact us on 1800 517 158 or enquiries@plsa.vic.gov.au.

If you think you and your employer should be registered for the Scheme (use our employer lookup tool(opens in a new window) to see if your employer is registered), please review the worker coverage criteria and Guidance Note 2(opens in a new window). In some instances, a direct worker registration process form may be completed.

Tracking your entitlements

You will need your Worker ID to log in to the worker portal where you can track your employer contributions, current accrual under the Scheme, update your contact information and access your annual statements.

Missing service

It’s important to check your work history in the worker portal to ensure the work you have performed has been recorded correctly by your employer.

If you are missing work hours, you may miss out on portable long service leave entitlements.

Find out how to claim missing service.

Claiming portable long service benefits

You must have at least 7 years of recognised service under the Scheme to apply for portable long service benefits.

Read more about claiming your long service benefits.

Taking leave from the industry

If you do not work in your industry for more than 4 consecutive years, your registration may become inactive.

Once your registration has been moved to the inactive part of the workers register, you may lose all your previous service days and may not be able to claim your long service leave. If you return to the industry later, your service days will start again from zero.

We will contact you if you are approaching 4 consecutive years without at least one service day being credited to you by your employer(s).

If you think you are missing service from your service record you will need to provide evidence that you have worked in the industry over the last 4 years.
