About the program

Funding of up to $25,000 (excl GST) is available through the Multicultural Media Grants (MMG) Program, to support multicultural media outlets to increase resourcing and build capacity within the organisation to support their communities across:

  • print
  • radio
  • broadcasting
  • digital media platforms

This program supports multicultural media organisations to foster a greater sense of belonging and connection in multicultural communities to enable people to feel connected and supported through the following two objectives:

  • enhancing the quality of services, coverage or capacity to extend audience reach to multicultural communities
  • equipping multicultural staff, volunteers, and young adults in the community with the skills and experience needed to thrive in media careers by offering tailored training opportunities, fostering growth and employability in the industry.

Funding available

A maximum grant of up to $25,000 is available per organisation.

Key dates and timelines

  • Applications open Friday 11 October 2024.
  • Applications close Friday 15 November 2024 at 3:00pm. The Department will not accept late or incomplete applications.
  • The Department will publish successful outcomes and notify applicants in March 2025.
  • All projects and final reports must be completed by 31 December 2025.

Assessment process overview

Applications will go through an eligibility assessment. Once deemed eligible, the application will then proceed to merit assessment.

A panel will then review applications. The panel includes representatives from the Department and the Victorian Multicultural Commission.

The Minister for Multicultural Affairs makes the final decision to award a grant under this program. This is based on recommendations from the assessment panel. The Department will advise your organisation whether you are or are not successful.
