Cladding Safety Victoria (CSV) has further enhanced its world leading work to reduce the risks posed by combustible cladding with the appointment of Dr Kate Nguyen as Chief Engineer.
CSV has cladding removal and replacement projects complete or underway on 200 residential apartment buildings in Victoria with another 53 to commence over coming months.
CSV has worked with the CSIRO to develop a ground-breaking approach to assessing the risk posed by combustible cladding which in turn is used to find practical and cost-effective solutions. The appointment of Dr Nguyen will add another dimension to this important work.
Dr Nguyen is a Senior Lecturer and ARC DECRA Fellow at RMIT University. She works in Advanced Construction Materials with a focus on fire performance of materials and structures.
Dr Nguyen is also the leader of the Innovative Fire & Facade Engineering Group and is presently involved in several projects about fire design and protection of buildings in Australia and overseas.
Dr Nguyen holds a PhD (Civil Engineering) from The University of Melbourne, MEng (Chemical Engineering) from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam and BEng (Materials Engineering, Honours) from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam.
Dr Nguyen was also recently awarded the Batterham Medal for Engineering Excellence at the Australian Academy of Technology & Engineering ATSE Awards 2021.
