About the Educational Leaders Conference

Hosted by the Department of Education, this is the second Best Start, Best Life: Educational Leaders Conference that is dedicated to support educational leaders guide the delivery of 2 years of high-quality play-based learning for Victorian children.

The 2025 conference theme is Brain development and the criticality of the early years and will present the latest evidence in neuroscience research. Two keynote presentations will show how the early years of development establish the basic structures of the brain and how teaching teams can capitalise on this limited window of time to positively impact children’s cognitive development.

The day will also offer workshops to strengthen intentional teaching skills and practical guidance on how those skills can be used to build subject matter expertise in the learning area of language and literacy.

The conference will be an opportunity for educational leaders to:

  • learn from and be inspired by international experts and local leading practitioners
  • engage in evidence-informed discussions about high-quality teaching in early childhood
  • network and connect with other educational leaders.
