The Orange Door Network

The Orange Door network plays an important part in ensuring Victorians that are experiencing or at risk of family violence or who need support with the wellbeing of their children have access to coordinated services.

Practitioners at The Orange Door network work with people to provide coordinated and tailored support, including immediate supports for women, children, young people and families, risk assessments, safety planning and help to access a range of community-based services. Practitioners can help people access longer term support including case management, financial counselling and legal assistance, and provide advice to professionals, and concerned family members and friends.

They also work with people using violence to engage them and connect them to services which can support them to change their behaviour.

The Orange Door network welcomes people of any age, gender, sexuality, ability and cultural and religious backgrounds tailoring support to meet the diverse needs of each family member, including responding to children and young people in their own right. This support is provided face to face, via phone and online.

A key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Family Violence, The Orange Door network is now operating in 15 areas across the state with a further 2 areas on track to open by the end of 2022.

In each area, a multi-disciplinary team is established with partner organisations, working and learning together, that specialise in:

  • family violence services
  • child and family services
  • Aboriginal services
  • perpetrator services.

Specialist expertise is provided to the multidisciplinary team to support high quality and culturally safe service delivery through leadership roles including:

  • Team Leader
  • Aboriginal Practice Leader and Practitioner
  • Advanced Family Violence Practice Leaders
  • Integrated Practice Leader
  • Children and Young People’s Practice Leader
  • Community Based Senior Child Protection Practitioner
