A State Memorial Service to honour the four Victoria Police officers who lost their lives in the Eastern Freeway tragedy was held on Thursday, 3 February 2022 at Marvel Stadium, Docklands.
The service honoured the legacies of Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King, Constable Josh Prestney and Constable Glen Humphris.
The service commenced with a Welcome to Country by Aunty Di Kerr, followed by a rendition of the Australian National Anthem performed by Raphael Wong.
The memory of the officers was then honoured on behalf of the people of Victoria by the Premier, the Honourable Daniel Andrews MP. The Minister for Police, the Honourable Lisa Neville MP, read a poem written by a member of Victoria Police, before Chief Commissioner Shane Patton APM provided a reflection.
This was followed by tributes and performances on behalf of the families of each of the four officers. The service concluded with the reading of the Police Ode, a video of Melbourne in Blue and a minute silence.
At the closing of the service, over 1000 members of Victoria Police formed a guard of honour as a mark of respect for their fallen colleagues.
