On 22 October 2024, the Social Services Regulator (SSR) received its inaugural Ministerial Statement of Expectation (SOE).

The SOE is a formal public statement made by the Minister for Children and Disability, the Hon. Lizzie Blandthorn, providing clear guidance on the government’s priorities and expectations of the role of the Regulator.

In line with the objectives set out under the Social Services Regulation Act 2021, the Minister expects the Regulator to protect the rights of service users, to minimise risks of avoidable harm and to promote and support the delivery of safe and effective social services.

The SOE outlines priority areas of focus for the SSR including developing guidance and support resources for the sector, stakeholder engagement and consultation, reducing regulatory burden, continuous improvement and Aboriginal cultural safety and inclusion.
