The Orange Door will have a physical location at a newly leased building in Shepparton but will provide help and support for people living across Goulburn from early next year. The area will be further supported by the establishment of an access point in the Mitchell Shire.
The Orange Door(opens in a new window) is a new and easy way to access help and support for family violence and for families who need support with the care of children and young people.
It is a partnership between the Victorian Government’s Family Safety Victoria and local service providers including:
- Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative(opens in a new window)
- FamilyCare(opens in a new window)
- Primary Care Connect(opens in a new window)
- Nexus Primary Health(opens in a new window)
Five locations of The Orange Door have already opened across the state – Barwon (Geelong), Inner Gippsland (Morwell), North East Melbourne (Heidelberg), Bayside Peninsula (Frankston), Mallee (Mildura). The Orange Door services can also be accessed via access points in Colac and Swan Hill as part of a network of support services being established across the state.
The Orange Door services are funded by a $448 million investment by the Victorian Government – part of a record $2.9 billion investment to address family violence following the Royal Commission into Family Violence. As at 31 December 2019, 154 of the 227 Royal Commission recommendations have been completed.
Since The Orange Door first began operations in 2018, over 91,100 people have been referred or directly sought help from The Orange Door for family violence or children and family services across Victoria, including more than 35,200 children.
