Councillor Sarah Carter was the first woman to serve three times as Mayor in the City of Maribyrnong - in 2011, 2020 and 2022. She was first elected in 2008 and returned to Council for her fourth consecutive term in 2022.
Sarah was committed to her work at Save The Children and a passionate supporter of Western Bulldogs Foundation. Her love and advocacy for Melbourne’s west was well known to all who knew her.
After her sudden passing in 2024, the annual Sarah Carter Memorial Award was established, to recognise outstanding women on behalf of the Australian Workers' Union.
