Doing business in government requires digital systems to integrate and share information securely.
Digital transformation improves processes and systems through the strategic use of digital technology. This supports the delivery of well-connected and trusted services.
This kind of innovation doesn’t happen by itself.
This is where our Digital Integration Services (DIS) team come in. They’re working to improve information sharing and build cross-department capability in government.
Improving the way our systems connect means better customer experiences. It also means better support for critical initiatives, infrastructure and data sharing.
The team have been building digital systems that:
- enable and provide real-time, 24/7 access to critical information
- improve how different systems communicate and exchange data securely. This helps ensure government is ready to use future technological advances like AI
- reduce duplication, encourage standardisation and drive cost saving for government.
Let’s look at a few ways the DIS team are helping to deliver critical services for Victorians in family safety, public safety and health.
Service improvements for survivors of family violence
The team helped Family Safety Victoria improve access to information used to create time-critical reports with The Central Information Point.
This system uses information from multiple departments to create risk assessment reports. These reports are used to protect survivors of family violence from potential harm.
We created and built secure connections to sensitive data in collaboration with:
- Corrections Victoria
- Victoria Police
- Courts Services Victoria
- Department of Health
- Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
Improved data sharing between departments results in better services for family violence survivors.
Powering high-volume, real-time data exchange
We are also supporting Victoria Police with their digital transformation efforts.
Using the DIS platform, Victoria Police has built and managed their own integrations. These integrations support critical policing activities. They connect to secure federal, state, and internal data and information systems. For example, firearms registries, traffic monitoring, family safety and licensing systems.
Discover government resources for integrations
App developers can access tools and resources on our portal to connect their apps with data from:
- government departments
- agencies, and
- selected government partners.
Integration is crucial for delivering connected government services and facilitating digital transformation. We are leading innovation through discovery and APIs are a key to connecting with government data.
We are identifying new ways to make government services quicker and easier. This is critical to providing better and more accessible services for Victorians.
The DIS team is part of the Department of Government Services.
