New Year of Learning Prep Video - Questions from students

[Female Teacher]

Are teachers strict?

Teachers are not strict. Teachers do like rules though. We like rules and we like routines. So we like to know what's happening for the day. And we want you to know that, too. We want you to know what our rules are at school, and we help you learn how to follow them. We're definitely not strict though.

What happens when I need to go to the bathroom?

If you're in class and you need to go to the bathroom, all you need to do is pop your hand up and ask the teacher. The teacher will always let you go to the bathroom when you need to go. If you need to go to the bathroom when it's outside time, you can just go on your own. You'll know where they are because we'll teach you.

This is fun.

What happens if I can't find my friends at playtime?

At our school, if you can't find your friends at play time, there are lots of different ways you could solve that problem. You could find a yard duty teacher. They're generally someone who walks around with a big yellow vest on.

You might find a Peer Mediator. They’re some of our big kids, our Grade 5/6’s who also help in the yard. They wear a green vest at our school. And you can find them and they'll help you find somebody to play with.
