Bachar Houli: From 2025, Four-Year-Old Kindergarten is gradually becoming Pre-Prep in six selected LGAs in Victoria.
In 2026, Pre-Prep will be available to children from a refugee or asylum seeker background, no matter where they live in Victoria.
Pre-Prep will also be available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
And children who have had contact with child protection services.
Learning through play is a powerful way to support your children's development.
Kinder helps children build confidence and independence while they develop their social and emotional skills.
Two years of quality early learning before school has many benefits, especially for children that may need extra support.
At home, you can only develop so much, whereas when you go into an environment where you do have obviously supervised by adults, but more importantly, around 15, 20 other kids from different backgrounds, you know, as young kids, you pick up a lot of things.
But, you know, my son’s developed so much and we're very, very proud of his development.
And we'll continue with this amazing program and, you know, we're very fortunate.
By 2036 every four-year-old will be able to access 30 hours of Pre-Prep at participating services across Victoria.
