Physical activity, for me, has always been about the mental benefits.
The mornings that I get up, and move and train, I am a much better teacher. I try to transfer that feeling to my students.
I get to show them how awesome moving their body can be. It’s just so good for your brain.
I started to succeed in triathlon after I had my daughter. I threw myself into training and I've competed all over the world. It does take a lot of determination, but that's what sport is all about.
Learning to reach your goals, move your body and feel good. It's such an important part of physical education too.
The kids I teach have come from some really tough situations. They're at this school for 6 months, and we focus on their social and emotional learning.
Physical activity goes a long way in building up that confidence. It could be the smallest moment, like getting that goal, throwing that wicket, or running a little bit further than you did the day before.
Seeing their faces smile always makes my day.
Teaching really is an amazing job. If you have that passion to help others, then you should just take that leap. And give it a shot.
It will bring you so much joy.
My name is Alex Johnson. I teach physical education. I have been at Yarra Me for two years.
