Non-cladding defects on Class 2 buildings - Video 1

Cladding rectification is complete at this St Kilda property.

The replacement of higher risk expanded polystyrene cladding was funded by Cladding Safety Victoria.

Owners funded the rectification of severe other defects which exceeded one million dollars.

“The builder got away with a lot of short cuts; all the balconies were collapsing, and the west side of the building actually sagged also – so that all had to be jacked back up.

“It was imperative that everyone moved out. All the walls that were opened up, there were no windows, there were no doors; so there was no chance of anyone being able to stay in the apartments.

“We’re looking at around the $112,000 per lot owner, so that’s on top of people having their mortgages, on top of what people purchased their apartment for. It’s a major, major blow. A lot more needs to be done to stop these sort of things happening.”
