In the water behind me, in the Dunyak Moira fishing ponds,
we've got about 65 fish, 25 of those are advanced
Murray Cod and the remainder are Yellowbellies, also advanced fish.
It's been built on what was a water treatment plant
20 years ago, but not required,
and two ponds. They were empty. We've revegetated and come up with basically an ecosystem
where we now housing 65 advanced fish and I don't know how many thousand fingerlings.
One of the core aspects is to create a habitat for fish
and Emergency Recovery Victoria, following some storm events around Healesville,
had some surplus root balls from some large trees and I believe back in about February 2021
six truckloads of root balls were delivered and we've really seen
the benefits once we filled the pond with water.
We have not lost one one big fish and they're breeding.
The health and wellbeing benefits is massive, particularly with coming out of Covid,
and also getting the the younger people out in the natural environment
as well to really soak up the the fresh air and and you know
explore the natural environment within the animals that live here.
It's just going to open up this whole area and the local community that they've got somewhere
to go that's not a dangerous channel bank but somewhere safe to go and fish and hopefully
enjoy the environment that we're creating and will continue to create itself around this lake.
