The Learn Local part of
what we do at PRACE is really who we are.
It's the part where we get to walk into a community,
build courses from the ground up, and work with businesses
to make sure people actually go from studying into work.
It's not just, you know, a course for a course's sake.
It's about having a pathway.
We were recommended by the local council to work with Mirvac
to look at what the local community needs in this area.
So we brought to the table the employability skills
that Winslow felt was lacking in new employees.
They were able to bring the resources to contextualise
those employability skills lessons to the construction industry.
It's grassroots.
It's built from the ground up with people
who know their area and know what's needed in their area.
And it really results in authentic pathways.
And Winslow
as a partner offers that because we've found that
we're all on the same page about not just finding people a job,
but finding people a job they can really grow in.
We're finding that everyone who's finished the course has been offered work,
which is really dynamic, it's really exciting.
So Mirvac obviously is very situated in this space.
They have a team who are constantly working out what this community needs.
We also have staff members who are situated on site.
And between us, we're able to talk to the community,
whether that's a survey, a conversation over coffee
or going down to the local netball club.
And we're able to find out
what kind of work people want to be in, what kind of courses they need.
Having confidence in your partners, that their philosophy is similar,
if not the same as your own, just paves the way
to make sure that the partnership can move forward.
They seem to be an excellent employer, and so there's
no concern about recommending people for work.
Ensuring that everyone's on the same page
with what they want to achieve from the partnership is critical.
It's a really great model that we can replicate with any industry
partner and together you've got a really successful model
that can support students into work.
