Silence is deadly

Are your smoke alarms interconnected?

Victoria’s fire and rescue services recommend smoke alarms be installed in all bedrooms and living areas.

Smoke alarms should be:

  • powered by a long-life lithium battery
  • installed on the ceiling at least 30cm from the wall
  • interconnected so that when any alarm activates, all smoke alarms will sound.

Test all smoke alarms monthly. Clean smoke alarms with a vacuum cleaner at least once a year to remove dust particles.

Replace smoke alarms after 10 years regardless of the type.

Remember, the smell of smoke alone won’t wake you up. Silence is deadly.

In an emergency, or if you see smoke or flames, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
