Become an Australian citizen
Councils in Victoria run citizenship ceremonies on 26 January each year.
The time taken to process citizenship applications depends on your circumstances and background.

Australian citizenship affirmation
The Australian citizenship affirmation is a short statement based on the pledge made by new Australian citizens.
You can affirm your commitment to Australia by taking part in an Australian citizenship affirmation ceremony.
These ceremonies may be part of a citizenship ceremony or other community function. You can join new citizens and affirm your loyalty to Australia.
The affirmation statement reads:
As an Australian citizen,
I affirm my loyalty to Australia and its people,
whose democratic beliefs I share,
whose rights and liberties I respect,
and whose laws I uphold and obey.
