Maidstone tram maintenance and stabling facility

The Victorian Government is building a new tram maintenance and stabling facility for Melbourne’s new next-generation G Class trams on part of the site at 61-71 Hampstead Road in Maidstone.

Project overview

We’re building a new tram maintenance and stabling facility for Melbourne’s new next-generation G Class trams on part of the 61 – 71 Hampstead Road site in Maidstone.

The accessible, comfortable, and energy-efficient next-generation G Class trams will start testing on the network from 2025. The new trams will service routes 57, 59 and 82.

The project will also extend the local tram line on Hampstead and Williamson roads with the trams accessing the facility on Hampstead Road.

Works progress

We’re closing the intersection and sections of Hampstead, Williamson, and Wests roads from 10pm, Thursday 7 November to Wednesday 27 November.

Our team will be working 24-hours a day installing tram tracks, overhead poles, wiring and kerbing on Williamson and Hampstead roads and on the project site.

Access to homes will be maintained at all times. See inside for more information about changes to how you travel.
